Artist Statement

I like to paint with the camera.  Through photography, I engage intimately with my surroundings and play with various techniques to create attractive and intriguing compositions that trigger emotions and contemplation.

I use reflections and movement to generate a poetic effect.  I discover reflections on frozen lakes, bronze sculptures, objects in a flea market or windows — everyday reflections that are often overlooked.   The different surfaces, such as ice, metal, glass and water, become a medium to expose shapes, highlight textures, and show multiple layers of reality.  I am more interested in evoking a mood and a sense of wonder than in documenting life objectively.  Viewers are deprived of the concrete, straight-forward visuals and are encouraged to get involved in a more subjective exploration

The creative process occurs while photographing.  I do not use the computer to transform the image.  I have found inspiration in some of my favorite impressionist, surrealist and abstract painters.
